A weekend in the Dales and Lakes saw the end of our 2017 season

Yes a three night break in the Dales and Lakes marked the last tour of our 2017 season. Whilst we are often lucky weather wise at this time of year, that was not to be the case this year and the weather was to say the least dissapointing.

Thankfully for most they got to the Lakes and back in the dry it was just the bit from Thursday night to Sunday morning (i.e. the tour) that was rubbish. On Friday despite a poor forecast we actually manged to dodge the worst of it. Having ventured into the Dales, we headed east and in fact could have gone home for a cuppa as that was definately where the better weather was. Returning via the Trough of Bowland we stayed pretty much dry, it was nice to visit there as it is some years since I have ridden them roads and an area that I do not get into often. 

Saturday dawned wet and with a forecast for an improvement we headed to the Lakes Motor Museum for a couple of hours. Always a  good wet weather venue and an excellent cafe if you are in that part of the world. Following this we rode through the Lakes even glimpsing sunshine in the distance - so near yet so far !!

Depsite the weather it was a good weekend, the hotel accommodation and excellent food makes it worthwhile alone, and with such a good crowd of riders both regulars and newbies it was as much a social event as a tour.

On the whole we have had another good year, we have had some great tours and some great weather. Whilst the UK's summer can only be desribed as 'poor',  Europe as had the benefit of a benevolent jet stream keeping the weather sunny and warm.
