Portugal & N.Spain 2017

This is another tour that has become a yearly event, but despite having run it many times, is a firm favourite with our customers and us alike, and as they say if it’s not broken don’t fix it.

We had a record amount of people on this tour; however, everything ran like clockwork mainly in part due to the fact that many of the people had been with us before and rode independently and the riders who were new or just prefer to ride with escorts were really good, making our life easy.

Our tour started with an overnight stop near Bristol. En-route we had the unfortunate experience of seeing the horrendous accident on the Northbound M5 motorway. You may have seen it reported on the news, but in reality it was a very sobering experience and one I would prefer not to see again.

We had a smooth crossing over to Santander, and despite being practically last off, were soon under way to our first nights stop. As is often the way, we were greeted with drizzle but this soon disappeared and we were soon  in sunshine and blue skies having passed through the mountains to the plains beyond.

I am not going to give a day by day breakdown of the tour, other than to say the weather was perfect, the temperatures were spot on for riding, the hotels great and the roads empty and a joy to ride.

There was a certain anxiety in the group due to the presence of ‘Jersey Geoff’ aka the ‘Rain man’ – however he was confronted by my secret weapon ‘sunny Mike. Mike is my friend and our USA tour guide from Arizona. He seems to have fantastic weather wherever he goes on holiday (yes folks he had 28C in the Isle of Skye one year). Anyway seems his powers were greater, this ensuring the great weather I described.

Geoff denies all responsibility and points to the great weather with us on our Carinthia tour – however he did admit it rained non-stop from Jersey to meeting us in Spain. Enough said……

We will be repeating this tour albeit with a couple of tweaks at the same time in 2018.
