Fantastic scenery and great biking roads in the Austrian Tirol and Germany

Our tours to Austria are always popular and so we have no hesitation in returning again, Our 3 night base is one which many of you know well and enjoy. Set in the beautiful Kauner valley it is ideally located to reach the Timmelsjoch (2474m), Silvretta (2036m) and the one everyone wants to ride with its 40 hairpin bends, the Stelvio Pass (2765m).

After 3 nights in Austria, we have two nights in the Southern Black Forest before moving to a further two night stay in Trier, one of the oldest cities in Germany and an ideal centre from which to tour the beautiful Mosel Valley.

The tour will especially appeal to those who enjoy the thrill of riding mountain passes, but is also ideal for those who prefer the fast sweeping roads of the beautiful manicured river valleys, which the Austrian Tyrol has in abundance. The second half of the tour is less demanding, but is to some of my favourite parts of Germany, the Black Forest, and Mosel valley with its scenic riverside roads and Fairy-Tale castles.

This is an Escorted Tour which means that although the guide will be with you, you are responsible for doing your own navigation. We provide a Tour Pack which will include a full itinerary, suggested route directions, Gpx waypoints and hotel location. This system suits many people, as it allows them to ride at their own pace and style, either alone or in small groups. However, if it is your first time abroad, or you just prefer, you may ride with the guide, who will act as your escort throughout the tour.

Tour prices are inclusive of the following:

  • Return overnight Hull-Zeebrugge ferry with 4berth en-suite cabin (for 2)  or Eurotunnel crossing (see departure choice)
  • 9 Nights en-suite accommodation at 4 star hotels
  • 9 Regional breakfasts
  • 5 Evening meals
  • Full use of the hotels' leisure facilities
  • Route notes as appropriate - Gpx routes
  • Guided Day tours
  • Services of experienced Tour Guide

Not Included:

  • Meals onboard ferries
  • Tolls (Vignettes) for Austria & Switzerland
  • Evening meals other than shown
  • Parking charges

The tour itinerary is based on a Northern Crossing with the option to use a Southern crossing which will shorten the tour by two days.

Thursday 11th July: For those using the Northern crossing, you should make your way to Hull to catch the P&O overnight ferry to Zeebrugge. You are able to board early evening, allowing you plenty of time to relax and enjoy the great on-board facilities. A 2/4 berth en-suite cabin (for 2) is included in your crossing. The ferry will dock approx 9.30am the following morning, giving you the full day to make your way to the first night's hotel (265 miles).

Friday 12th July (250 miles): Those using the Southern crossing should arrive in time for a morning Eurotunnel crossing for their journey across France. Whichever crossing you have chosen, we will all meet- up and get to know one another at our first night's stop in the Champagne region. 4 star hotel, Dinner, B&B.

Saturday 13th July (200 miles): Entering the Vosges Mountains, we get to enjoy some of the great roads favoured by the 'Tour de France' before dropping to the flat fertile plains of the Rhein Valley. A hotel in the Alsace region is our stop tonight. 4 star hotel, Dinner B&B.

Sunday 14th July (230 miles): Passing through Switzerland, we encounter the first of the many passes you will enjoy whilst in Austria. Our day ends at our hotel in the Austrian Tyrol, which will be our base for the next 3 nights. 4 star hotel, Dinner, B&B, free garage all nights

Monday 15th - Tuesday 16th July (free days): We have two days to explore this wonderful part of the world. We will be staying in an area where Switzerland, Italy and Austria all come together, and the mountain passes and lakeside roads offer a tremendous choice of routes to ride.

I am sure everyone will be keen to ride some of the passes in the area, such as the Timmelsjoch (2300m), Silvretta (2036m), and Stelvio (2765m), but should you want something less energetic, the historic city of Innsbruck is not far away, where there are numerous historic buildings to visit, or, alternatively, the famous Swarovski Crystal World. You may, instead, prefer a gentle ride through the immaculate Austrian pastures to Fussen in Bavaria. Here you will see the Schloss Neushwanstein, an archetypal fairy-tale castle that has provided inspiration for countless storybooks, and a certain Disneyland castle.

Wednesday 17th July (250 miles): Plenty of choices today, as we head westwards to enter Liechenstein. Taking a scenic route across Switzerland we enter the Southern Black Forest for a 2 night stay. 4 star hotel, B&B.

Thursday 18th July (free day): Your hotel enjoys a lovely lakeside location, from where you can enjoy the roads of the Black Forest.. If you prefer a day off the bikes, the nearby town of Freiburg can be reached by train, or you can just relax on the hotels lakeside lawns. We again dine out at one of the village restaurants. B&B.

Friday 19th July (160 miles):  From here we ride the length of the Black Forest on the famous B500 before entering France near Baden Baden. Our final destination in Germany is the historic city of Trier. Although a modern city today, Trier is believed to be one of the oldest cities in Germany and has many Roman buildings, one of which is the impressive Porta Nigra located directly opposite your hotel. We leave you to dine out at one of the many restaurants within easy walking distance, 4 star hotel, B&B

Saturday 20th July (free day): Time to relax and enjoy a ride along the beautiful Mosel valley, with its half-timbered houses and fairy-tail castles, or perhaps a gentle stroll around the numerous sights of the city.  4 star hotel, B&B

Sunday 21st July : Today, we say goodbye to our fellow riders as we leave for the ferry port of our choice. Those using the Southern crossing (280 miles) will be at Calais in time for an afternoon crossing, whilst those on the Northern crossing (230 miles) head for Zeebrugge and their overnight ferry.

Monday 22nd July: The ferry docks at 0900 hrs, giving us time to have breakfast and bid farewell to our fellow riders before making our way home.

With customers from the whole length of the UK and Ireland, we understand that many of our northern clients dislike the ride down to the channel ferry ports – likewise it does not make sense for our many clients from the south to ride north to join a tour at Hull. Therefore, where possible, we have arranged the first and last night’s hotel to be within similar riding distance of both Calais & Zeebrugge. For your increased comfort we have arranged more spacious 2 berth cabins on all P&O Hull-Zeebrugge crossings. Clients using the Southern crossing have the convenience of crossing the channel using the Eurotunnel service.

As always, you may make your own arrangements and we will adjust costs accordingly.

Note:
The tour will be 2 nights shorter for those customers using the Eurotunnel and they will depart the UK on Friday 12th July and return Sunday 21st July

Personal Travel & Breakdown Assistance Cover

On all European tours (including Southern Ireland) we require clients to take-out some form of Personal Travel and Accident/Breakdown cover. This is essential for repatriation of yourself and your motorcycle in the event of an accident or medical emergency. If you have an existing policy you should check that your company would repatriate your bike, even if undamaged, should you be unable to ride it (many do not!) .

We also strongly urge you to take out insurance that includes cancellation cover in the event of accident, illness or redundancy when you make your booking. Information on such companies can be found on our insurance page http://www.motorcycletours.co.uk/more/travel-insurance.html
