Fantastic scenery and great biking roads in the Austrian Tirol and Germany
Our tour takes you from the beautiful river valleys of Germany to the Mountains of the Austrian Tyrol. There will be two main tour centres allowing you to unpack, relax and enjoy touring without luggage.
Having taken the crossing of your choice we will spend 3 nights at a lovely 4 star hotel overlooking the Rhine. From here we can ride the riverside roads of both the Rhine and Mosel Valleys with their vineyards and fairy-tale castles, or perhaps take one of the great cross country roads to visit the famous Nurburgring. This weekend there is also the Gauklerfest at the the nearby Koblenz castle, easily reached by bike or by taking a river boat.
Next we head East to the lovely walled city of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, we should arrive in plenty of time to explore and have a drink or two in this medieval walled town.
Due South next as we follow the famous Romantic Road as it winds past chocolate box villages through Bavaria and into Austria, here we stay for another 3 nights at a 4 star hotel which many of you know well and enjoy. Set in the beautiful Kauner valley it is ideally located to reach the Timmelsjoch (2474m), Silvretta (2036m) and the one everyone wants to ride with its 40 hairpin bends, the Stelvio Pass (2765m).
Leaving Austria we return via the Vosges Mountains and Champagne region for your crossing back to the UK.
This is an Escorted Tour which means that although the guide will be with you, you are responsible for doing your own navigation. We provide a Tour Pack which will include a full itinerary, suggested route directions, Gpx waypoints and hotel location. This system suits many people, as it allows them to ride at their own pace and style, either alone or in small groups. However, if you prefer, you may ride with the guide, who will act as your escort throughout the tour.
Tour prices are inclusive of the following:
- Return overnight Hull-Rotterdam/Zeebrugge-Hull ferry with 4 berth en-suite cabin (for 2) or Eurotunnel crossing (see departure choice)
- 9 Nights en-suite accommodation at 3 & 4 star hotels
- 9 Regional breakfasts
- 9 Evening meals
- Full use of the hotels' leisure facilities
- Route notes as appropriate - Gpx routes
- Guided Day tours
- Services of experienced Tour Guides (Dave and John)
- Meals onboard ferries
- Tolls (Vignettes) for Austria & Switzerland
- Parking charges
Your tour will have two main bases both of which are 4 star hotels. The first overlooks the Rhine and has a lovely beer garden in which to sit and watch the river traffic go by. Facilities include an indoor swimming pool and indoor parking.
After an overnight stop in Rothenburg we arrive in Austria for a 3 night stay. This 4 star hotel is one of a group of Austrian hotels dedicated to looking after Motorcyclists (of which, this is probably the best). Set in the valley, below the snow-capped Kauntertal glacier, its idyllic position offers not only luxury accommodation, but a great centre from which to tour. The hotel has a large ‘Wellness Centre’ consisting of sauna, steam room, gym and small indoor swimming pool. During our stay there, all evening meals are included, as well as afternoon coffee and cake, and a Buffet Breakfast. The hotel has a special bike garage, powerwash and fully-equipped workshop. Being a BMW testride center, for a reasonable fee you are able to take a days test ride on one of the many BMW models within the range.
We feel this tour offers great value as all accommodation with the exception of Rothenburg is of 4 star Quality, and all evening meals are included.
The tour itinerary is based on a Northern Crossing with the option to use a Southern crossing which will shorten the tour by two days.
Wednesday 29th July: For those using the Northern crossing, you should make your way to Hull to catch the P&O overnight ferry to Rotterdam. You are able to board early evening, allowing you plenty of time to relax and enjoy the great on-board facilities. A 2/4 berth en-suite cabin (for 2) is included in your crossing. The ferry will dock approx 8.30am the following morning, giving you the full day to make your way to the first night's hotel (275 miles).
Thursday 30th July (320 miles): Those using the Southern crossing should arrive in time for an early morning Eurotunnel crossing for their journey to Germany. Whichever crossing you have chosen, we will all meet- up and get to know one another at our first night's stop in the Rhine Valley. 4 star hotel, Dinner, B&B.
Friday 31st July - Saturday 1st August ( two free days) : Your time is your own whilst here, there are some great ride-outs long the river valleys and the Nurburgring is usually open to the public at weekends to ride or spectate. This weekend there is also the Gauklerfest in the fortress of Ehrenbreitstein , Koblenz. You could ride there or take one of the many cruises leaving from outside the hotel.4 star hotel, Dinner B&B
Sunday 2nd August (185 miles): Combination of motorway and country roads takes us East to pick up the 'Romantic Road' to the medieval walled town of Rothenburg. 3 star hotel, Dinner B&B.
Monday 3rd August (225 miles): We continue to follow the Romantic road passing through Bavaria into the Tyrol region of Austria. Our day ends at a 4 star hotel in the Kauner Valley, your base for the next three nights. 4 star hotel, Dinner B&B.
Tuesday 4th - Wednesday 5th (free days): We have two days to explore this wonderful part of the world. We will be staying in an area where Switzerland, Italy and Austria all come together, and the mountain passes and lakeside roads offer a tremendous choice of routes to ride. I am sure everyone will be keen to ride some of the passes in the area, such as the Timmelsjoch (2300m), Silvretta (2036m), and Stelvio (2765m), but should you want something less energetic, the historic city of Innsbruck is not far away, where there are numerous historic buildings to visit, or, alternatively, the famous Swarovski Crystal World. You may, instead, prefer a gentle ride through the immaculate Austrian pastures to Fussen in Bavaria. Dinner B&B
Thursday 6th August (250 miles) : Choice of routes today, you can either cross through Switzerland or ride along the shores of Lake Constance, both take you to your next nights stay on the German/Swiss border. 4 star hotel, Dinner B&B.
Friday 7th August (200 miles): Climbing from the plains of the Rhine river we enter the Vosges Mountains to ride some of the great roads favoured by the 'Tour de France'. Our day finishes at a hotel complete with pool in the Champagne region. 4 star hotel, Dinner B&B.
Saturday 8th August : Today, we say goodbye to our fellow riders as we leave for the ferry port of our choice. Those using the Southern crossing (250 miles) will be at Calais in time for an afternoon crossing, whilst those on the Northern crossing (230 miles) head for Zeebrugge and their overnight ferry.
Sunday 9th August : The ferry docks at 0900 hrs, giving us time to have breakfast and bid farewell to our fellow riders before making our way home.

With customers from the whole length of the UK and Ireland, we understand that many of our northern clients dislike the ride down to the channel ferry ports – likewise it does not make sense for our many clients from the south to ride north to join a tour at Hull. Therefore, where possible, we have arranged the first and last night’s hotel to be within similar riding distance of both Calais & Zeebrugge. For your increased comfort we have arranged more spacious 2 berth cabins on all P&O Hull-Zeebrugge crossings. Clients using the Southern crossing have the convenience of crossing the channel using the Eurotunnel service.
As always, you may make your own arrangements and we will adjust costs accordingly.
Note: For those using Eurotunnel the tour will be 2 nights shorter and they will depart the UK on Thursday 30th July and return Saturday 8th August
Personal Travel & Breakdown Assistance Cover
On all European tours (including Southern Ireland) we require clients to take-out some form of Personal Travel and Accident/Breakdown cover. This is essential for repatriation of yourself and your motorcycle in the event of an accident or medical emergency. If you have an existing policy you should check that your company would repatriate your bike, even if undamaged, should you be unable to ride it (many do not!) .
We also strongly urge you to take out insurance that includes cancellation cover in the event of accident, illness or redundancy when you make your booking. Information on such companies can be found on our insurance page http://www.motorcycletours.co.uk/more/travel-insurance.html
