Lakes and Dales 2016

Created: 11 Oct 2016

This weekend tour saw us in the Lakes and Dales for an excellent 3 night tour - this completes our 2017 tour season

No doubt you will have gathered from my previous blogs that I am a little pre-occupied (anal some would say) regarding the weather. So having had a fantastic spell of dry and warm weather since our return from Spain I was anxiously watching the forecast for this final weekend tour and hoping the high pressure would against all odds hold off the nasty wet windy stuff waiting to rush in from the Atlantic.

I need not have worried, the temperature may have dropped a little but we had a lovely dry weekend with plenty of sunshine which showed the Lakes and Dales off to its best.

Quite a large group but nothing that we have not had in the past and having explained the ‘drop off’ system we headed into the Lakes. We had a great run up past Windemere, Rydal and into the Northern Lakes to enjoy Honister Pass, we then swung eastwards to pick up the Northern Pennines before heading south back through the Dales and home.

The following day was much along the same lines; however this time I took the group on some of the less well known, but very scenic roads in the Yorkshire Dales. In between we would drop onto the more popular bike friendly roads around Hawes to allow everyone to have a ‘play' Despite many of the riders not having ridden in a group before, everyone soon got the idea and I was very impressed with the way they rode

In our desire to see Europe I think many people forget just how beautiful our own country is, especially if I may so, in this part of the world. This was echoed by a lot of people on the tour, who were surprised by the diversity of roads and scenery. With this in mind I will be leading a tour next year (16-23rd July) which will be covering the whole of the North of England and into the Scottish Borders, taking you to all the best places and on the best roads, which I am sure you would enjoy.

So now it’s back to the computer to continue our arrangements for next year’s tours. Once these are finalised if I have your email address I will contact you, otherwise check the website out at the end of October, beginning of November.

Thanks again to Olwen for more great pictures, especially Wray Castle my old college.

Have a great winter and we hope to see you next year.

All the best

Val and Dave.

Very successful and as always enjoyable tour. Loved the whole weekend and an excellent group. Good to make new friends and see some old friends from back in the day.
