April - 2016

A couple of months since I last wrote, I must admit we are enjoying some down time here in Tucson.

But time is rolling on and it will soon be time to greet our customers joining us over here in the USA to do our ‘Cactus and Canyons’ tour.

It is the third time we have done this tour and we keep ‘tweaking’ it to get more and more in. Starting and finishing in Phoenix we do an anticlockwise tour taking us south to within a few miles of Mexico and northwards to Monument Valley, just over the border in Utah.  This covers the very best of Arizona including the popular Grand Canyon.

Several people have asked us about a 2017 USA tour, well I am pleased to say that it is already organised, the dates will be Sunday 14th May to Saturday 27th May and we will be covering Northern Arizona and the Canyonlands of Utah.

We first did this tour in 2015, however, this time we have added a couple of nights in Las Vegas, which means we can also visit Hoover Dam and ride more of Route 66. All the old favourites such as a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon and Sedona jeep tour will remain.  (See 2015 tour pictures)

The Antrim, Donegal and NW200 is now closed, we have a nice sized group and have added a day onto the tour so that nobody misses the action. It also gives us even more time to enjoy the scenery along with great ride-outs,  that are available in that part of the world.

Alison and Roy will as usual be taking the tour, along with the following one in June, ‘Scottish Borders and Lowlands’. Unfortunately the latter tour is not well supported, which is a real shame as  it covers some really good roads and takes you to many interesting places. Starting in Northumberland, we ride the causeway across to Holy Island before travelling north along the beautiful coastline to Edinburgh. A 2 night stop here gives you the opportunity to explore this lovely city with its Castle and other tourist attractions.

Crossing the Forth road bridge, the tour travels westwards through the Trossachs to another 2 night stop on the shores of Loch Fyne, where there is the opportunity to visit Arran or enjoy the beautiful West Coast before returning southwards through Galloway and Dumfries and onto the Lake District.

Most of our other tours are pretty much full, unfortunately due to ill health and some unfortunate accidents, we have received a few cancellations. Most of these we have filled, but there is odd vacancies. If there is something you particularly fancy then please do not hesitate to give us a call.

Alison is in the office whilst I am away and will be able to help, alternatively you can always email me at dave@motorcycletours.co.uk

I leave you with a picture I took this afternoon in the Saguaro NP east just outside Tucson. The Cactus is a Saguaro which are only found in this part of the world. This specimen must be over 100 years old as they do not usually grow arms until 75 years old.
