Austria & Swiss Alps

Always a favourite with our customers the tour had quite a mixture of weather to contend with.

The High pressure that has given the UK a lovely spell of hot weather continues to make conditions in Europe rather unsettled, and so it was with our recent Austria & Switzerland Tour. Following a smooth crossing everyone was introduced to temperatures in the 30,s as they crossed France, through Germany and Switzerland to their first base for the tour in Austria. Unfortunately this is when the weather decided to take a turn for the worse, with rain making an appearance. Some of the more hardy souls headed for the Stelvio pass and reported snow on the road and temperatures around freezing!

Fortunately things picked up as the group headed for Switzerland for a two night stay in Grindelwald. Some 2000 metres up, the village is on the doorstep of the Eiger and offers great opportunity to take the railway up to the Jungfrau or a visit to the revolving restaurant that starred in a James Bond Movie. There was even the yearly festival in the village to keep things lively.

The best day was perhaps reserved for those that enjoyed the twisty Juan Pass before descending to enjoy the views of Lake Lausanne on their way back to central France.

Despite the weather, and judging by the complimentary emails I have received, everyone had a great time and are ready to do again, but hopefully with better weather!

David,

Just read your blog on the Austria and Swiss tour. If you are still looking for photo’s for the gallery try this link. Last two photo’s I didn’t take. I just added them to remind myself what the Silvretta might have looked like in the dry. If there is anything useful you should be able to download it.
