Fantastic scenery and great biking roads in Bavaria and The Italian Dolomites
The tour will appeal to experienced riders who enjoy the thrill of riding mountain passes which the Dolomites and Bavaria have in abundance. However, the tour will will have two main bases which will provide alternatives for those that like a more relaxed pace. The tour has a 3 night stop in Bavaria and a further 3 night stop in the Italian Dolomites, allowing you to unpack and enjoy daily ride-outs.
Our first night will be on a 4 star hotel on the banks of the Rhein which will allow us to cut across Germany to our 4 star hotel in the shadow of the Zugspitze, the highest mountain in Germany. From here we ride the Bavarian Alps to our first 3 night stop in Berchtesgaden. On departure, you have choices, but the Grossglockner has to be the favourite before passing Cortina to a 3 night stop in the heart of the Dolomites.
On departure we ride the scenic roads of Trentino to our next hotel which is situated in a popular medieval town at the foot of the Stelvio Pass. On our return we have the opportunity to ride the Stelvio pass before stopping overnight on the Austrian/Swiss border. A further stop mid France returns us to our chosen UK crossing.
The tour is based on a Hull - Rotterdam crossing with the option to use the Eurotunnel which will shorten the tour by two nights Wednesday 7th July - Sunday 18th July. (see departure choice)
This is an Escorted Tour which means that although the guide will be with you, you are responsible for doing your own navigation. We provide a Tour Pack which will include a full itinerary, GPX route file and hotel location. This system suits many people, as it allows them to ride at their own pace and style, either alone or in small groups. However, if you prefer, you may ride with the guide, who will act as your escort throughout the tour.

Accommodation
Your hotels for this tour have been chosen for their locations, being motorcycle-friendly, and have either 3 or 4 star ratings. All accommodation is en-suite and includes the facilities you would expect of hotels of this class. Your stay includes use of the hotels' leisure facilities including swimming pools so you may wish to take your swimming gear.
Your hotel in Bavaria, recently renovated, is in a perfect location to go exploring the local outstanding beauty, with the mountains and local attractions certainly never far away.
The tour itinerary is based on a Northern crossing with the option to use a Southern crossing which will shorten the tour by two days. (see departure choice)
Tuesday 6th July: For those using the Northern crossing, you should make your way to Hull to catch the P&O overnight ferry to Rotterdam. You are able to board late afternoon, allowing you plenty of time to relax and enjoy the great onboard facilities. A 4 berth en-suite cabin (for 2) is included in your crossing. The ferry will dock approx 8.30am the following morning, giving you the full day to make your way to you overnight on the banks of the Rhein. (244 miles).
Wednesday 7th July: Those using the Southern crossing should arrive in time for a morning departure for their journey across France (310 miles). Whichever crossing you have chosen, we will all meet-up and get to know one another at our first night's stop, a 4 star hotel on the Rhein. 4 star hotel, Dinner and B&B.
Thursday 8th July (335 miles): Mainly motorways today before we join up with Deutsch Alpen Strasse. Ever popular with the BMW owners annual meeting, the road twist and turns over German-Austria border with outstanding scenery to take us to a one nights stop in the shadow of the Zugspitze. 4 star hotel, Dinner and B&B,
Friday 9th July (132 miles): Today we continue our journey along the Deutsch Alpen Strasse to our first 3 nights stop in the Bavarian Alps. 4 star hotel, B&B.
Saturday 10th - Sunday 11th July (Free days): The 3 night stay gives you chance to rest and visit the local attractions with the obvious attraction been a trip to the Kehlsteinhaus, more commonly known as the 'Eagles nest'. A gift to Hitler for his 50th birthday from the Nazi party and now repurposed as a restaurant high up in the Obersalzburg. There's also plenty of other attractions on offer, with a day out on Lake Konigssee or to the Hohenwerfen Castle. 4 star hotel, B&B.
Monday 12th July (188 miles) : Today you head south to Italy with the opportunity to ride the famous Grossglockner pass. Although a toll road, your money is well spent as you enjoy 48 kilometres of high alpine road with 36 bends, and an altitude ascent to 2,504 metres! Enroute you will get to see the highest peak in Austria, the Grossglockner (3,798m) and its glacier, the Pasterze.
Your hotel for the next three nights is set in a small town perhaps best know for its access to the ski slopes, however, during summer it position smack bang in the middle of the Dolomites makes it an ideal tour centre for bikers. Your stay includes full use of the hotels leisure facilities which include swimming pool, 2 saunas, steam bath and gym. 3 star hotel, Dinner and B&B.
Tuesday 13th - Wednesday 14th July : free days a three night stay gives you two days to ride the fantastic roads of the Dolomites. The mountains jagged rocks contrasting with the pristine meadows never fail to impress, and its hard to choose between admiring the scenery or enjoying the twisty mountain roads. Our central locaton gives us easy access to all of the Dolomite passes - take a great circular tour Campolongo to Corvara, Passo Gardena, Paso Sella then Pordoi to name a few. Of course there is my favourite Passo Giau which I ride whenever I get the opportunity. If you dont want to ride all day, there is a choice of cable cars to take, including one within walking distance of the hotel. 3 star hotel, Dinner and B&B.
Thursday 15th July (142/170 miles) : Today we exchange the dramatic Dolomites for the equally dramatic Italian Alps . Passing south of Bolzano we take the Passo Tonale towards Tirano. Got a head for heights? then take a short cut (142miles) over the Gavia Pass (2652M) classified as the 10th highest tarmac pass. Both routes will take you to your hotel for the next nights stop in the lovely town of Bormio. Your hotel tonight enjoys a central location, so whilst here, we give you the opportunity to dine out at one of the many restaurants in the town. 4 star hotel, B&B.
Friday 16th July (130 miles): A great choice of routes as we head to Austria. The obvious route is over the famous Stelvio Pass. Our 4 star hotel tonight is located in a medieval town in the western Austrian state of Vorarlberg, bordering on Switzerland and Liechtenstein. The hotel is one we have used many times and has modern rooms along with indoor swimming pool. 4 star hotel, Dinner and B&B.
Saturday 17th July (250 miles) : Continuing westwards we pass the shores of Lake Constance, through the southern Black Forest and over the Vosges Mountains to our final nights stop in the Lorraine region. 3 star hotel, Dinner and B&B
Sunday 18th July : ( 310/315 miles) Today, we say goodbye to our fellow riders as we leave for the ferry port of our choice. Those using the Eurotunnel (315 miles) will be at Calais in time for a late afternoon crossing, whilst those on the Northern crossing (310 miles) head for Rotterdam and their overnight ferry.
Monday 19th July : The ferry docks at 0700hrs, giving us time to have breakfast before making our way home.
With customers from the whole length of the UK and Ireland, we understand that many of our northern clients dislike the ride down to the channel ferry ports – likewise it does not make sense for our many clients from the south to ride north to join a tour at Hull. Therefore, where possible, we arrange the first and last night’s hotel to be within similar riding distance of both Calais & Rotterdam.
For your increased comfort we have arranged more spacious 2/4 berth cabins (for 2) on all P&O Hull-Rotterdam crossings, and clients using the Southern crossing will have the convenience of crossing the channel using the Eurotunnel service.
Note:
The tour will be 2 nights shorter for those customers using the Eurotunnel and they will depart Wednesday 7th July and return Sunday 18th July.
As always, you may make your own arrangements and we will adjust costs accordingly.
Personal Travel cover and Breakdown Assistance Cover
On all European tours (including Southern Ireland) we require clients to take-out some form of Personal Travel and Accident/Breakdown cover. This is essential for repatriation of yourself and your motorcycle in the event of an accident or medical emergency. If you have an existing policy you should check that your company would repatriate your bike, even if undamaged, should you be unable to ride it (many do not!).
We also strongly urge you to take out insurance that includes cancellation cover in the event of accident, illness or redundancy when you make your booking.
