We
return to Wales once again, this time for
three nights - giving us two full days to tour this lovely corner of the UK.
For the motorcyclists, Wales needs no introduction. Whilst mountain passes offer fantastic views, its super- smooth flowing roads never fail to put a smile on your face. Using our simple “drop off” system, you do not need to speed and are encouraged to ride at your own pace, giving you the opportunity to relax and make the most of your weekend.
This tour will also appeal to non-riding partners. Located at the edge of the lovely town of Llangollen there are many things to see and do. If you prefer not to wander too far, the hotel has a health suite, complete with hydro-pool, steam room, and sauna. Hairdressing and beauty treatments are also available at additional cost.
Set in the beautiful Dee Valley, Llangollen has 3000 years of history behind it, but came into prominence with the construction of Thomas Telford’s “Holyhead Road”. Taking some 15 years to construct, this connected the port of Holyhead with London and is now known as the A5. Telford was to leave his mark again, with the construction of a leg of the Shropshire canal into Llangollen. Originally constructed for the transportation of slate, it soon became a tourist attraction, mainly due to the Pontcysyllt aqueduct (again constructed by Telford) which takes the canal some 126 foot above the river Dee. Today, you can still take a boat ride, or just walk this beautiful canal. In 1861 the Great Western Railways arrived, offering passenger and freight services until its closure in the 1960s. Re-opened by a group of enthusiasts in 1975, it now offers Steam Train rides along its 7.5 miles of track.
Today Llangollen is perhaps better known for its yearly “Eisteddfod”, when the world literally comes to Wales to take part in this famous music festival.
