Relax and enjoy the views, safe in the knowledge that you are seeing the best scenery, visiting the right places and riding some superb biking roads.

Many people are apprehensive about riding in a group; however we use a simple drop off system which allows people to ride at their own pace.

All our tours are at an easy relaxed pace catering for riders of all abilities.

There are frequent stops for fuel, coffee or just to stretch your legs.

A long weekend in the beautiful Scottish Borders

We finish the year with this popular tour to Galloway & Dumfries and the Scottish Borders.  If you have never ridden in this area before, you will be amazed - not only by the scenery, but the quietness of the roads.   At the request of our customers - many whom now travel considerable distances to tour with us - we have extended the tour to three nights, giving you not one, but two full days to enjoy this lovely part of the world.

The tour is called “Border Reivers” after the families that lived in the area during the 17th century.  Constantly harassed by passing armies who, at best, demanded provisions and, at worst, destroyed crops, burnt homesteads and murdered anyone opposing them, they themselves became the aggressors, turning to  robbery and blackmail as a way of life.  Their local knowledge of the area also meant they became proficient at  'reiving', or rustling, as we now know it. So widespread did this practice become, that it was almost a profession to the Borders, who became skilled at their trade, and the whole of the borders took on an almost Wild West atmosphere.  Their success was in the words 'blackmail' and 'bereaved' - now part of the English language - which can be directly attributed to the Border Reivers.

Thankfully for us, the people of the Borders today are nothing but welcoming, and the combination of traffic-free roads, beautiful countryside and excellent accommodation means we take every opportunity to return to the Scottish Borders whenever we can.  If you have never toured before, this is an ideal opportunity to give it a try before tackling something a little longer or even joining us abroad next year.

Tour Format

Day 1: Friday 10th October  Today, you make your own way to your 3 star hotel, south of Dumfries.  This will then be our base for the duration of the tour.

Day 2: Saturday 11th October  The tour departs at 0930 hrs and is fully-guided, with no map-reading required. Led by an experienced Guide, you can relax and enjoy the views, knowing that you will be seeing the best scenery, visiting the right places and enjoying some great biking roads. Many people are apprehensive about riding in a group, but we use a simple ‘drop off’ marker system, which allows you to travel at your own pace.  All our Guided Tours are very relaxed - we do ride all day, but take a leisurely lunch break and make several stops for refreshments, photo opportunities or just to stretch your legs.  We will return to the hotel around 1630 hrs.

Day 3: Sunday 12th October  Today will be similar to yesterday’s format, providing further opportunity to admire the beautiful scenery and ride some great roads.  During your stay, you are, of course, welcome to take a day off, or explore on your own -  your guide will be able to advise you on what to see and do in the area.

Day 4: Monday 13th October  The tour finishes Monday morning.  However, weather permitting, we will be returning to Yorkshire via Alston, the Northern Pennines and the Yorkshire Dales.  If this is on your way home, you are welcome to join us - otherwise we will bid our farewells after breakfast.
