Antrim,Donegal & NW200 2017

Created: 16 May 2017

Good group of riders this year - by all accounts the weather was reasonable and judging by the glowing reports I have received (I am sure money is passing hands) Roy and Alison once again did a great job. Here is her blog. (apologies for some reason this did not publish on the date I posted it)

That’s another great tour over with for another year.  The NW200 and Donegal tour always attracts the enthusiastic race-goer, but the beautiful scenery is not to be missed.   Although the weather was a little bit on the dull side, we remained relatively dry from start to finish.

We toured County Antrim taking in Ballymoney home town of William and Michael Dunlop.  You can just imagine the atmosphere at Joey’s Bar on race day!!  Cushenden and the coast road are always an absolute pleasure.  As usual, we rode part of the NW200 circuit and dropped several people off at Ballysally roundabout so they could watch the Thursday evening racing.

We went to Malin Head, the most northerly point in southern Ireland … no storm troopers in sight this year!  Following last year’s filming of Star Wars, the roads are in the process of being resurfaced leading up to a new viewing point.  Roy’s trade mark seems to be taking wrong turnings but his one and only mistake on this tour led us to a beautiful white sanded beach at Leenankeel.  We then had a brisk ride through the Glenveagh National Park and back to our hotel.

On Saturday many of the group set off early for Coleraine to watch the racing.  The rest of us had an easy and relaxing day, going to Bushmills distillery for lunch, Ballintoy Harbour for an ice-cream and the Giant’s Causeway to see one of the geological marvels of the world!  Some managed to walk over the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge (all timed slots now though!)

On Sunday we made our way to the ferry where we said our goodbyes.

Take note Dave – no punctures, no breakdowns and no-one ran out of petrol !!

Mmm not sure what she means by that last comment......anyway they will get another chance to work their magic as we will be repeating this tour in 2018
